As my daughter sleeps…

Misty moonbeams steal across, frame her face,
soft pale skin, with a radiant glow,
iridescent, shimmering tresses embrace,
and highlight her head, a silver halo,

With trepidation I caress her brow,
(her delicate brow with my calloused palm)
A gentle touch, to express my love,
And immerse myself in her serene calm,

My failings drove me to reproach and chide,
A moments tempest, and hours of remorse
Transference of love and understanding denied
Or nature, in its normal course ?

Her beatific face, morphs into a smile
A smile, so heart-wrenchingly pure & naïve,
A child, untouched by deceit or guile
My eyes glisten and brim but I feel alive.
